Clerk to Governors
Location: Burgess Hill or Home
Salary: £13.08 per hour
Contract Type: Part-time, 10 hours per week minimum

Masterclass are working with a vibrant and inclusive SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) school dedicated to providing a high-quality education to all our students. They are looking for a dedicated and organised Clerk to Governors to provide administrative support to their governing body, ensuring the smooth running of meetings and effective communication between the school and its governors.
As the Clerk to Governors, you will play a crucial role in supporting the work of the school’s governing body. Your responsibilities will include preparing and distributing agendas, taking minutes, and ensuring that the board operates in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organise, prepare, and distribute agendas and supporting documents for governing body meetings in consultation with the Chair of Governors and Headteacher.
- Attend all governing body meetings, including committee meetings as required, and take accurate minutes.
- Provide administrative support to the governing body, including maintaining records, updating statutory information, and ensuring compliance with school governance regulations.
- Advise the governing body on governance, procedural, and legal matters, drawing on the relevant guidance and legislation.
- Manage correspondence and communication on behalf of the governing body, ensuring timely and effective distribution of information.
- Maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information discussed within meetings and ensure secure storage of documents.
Essential:
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to take clear and concise minutes.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritise tasks.
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a school governing body.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and online meeting platforms.
Desirable:
- Previous experience as a Clerk to Governors or in a similar administrative role within an educational setting.
- Knowledge of school governance procedures and relevant legislation.
- Experience in advising on governance, legal, and procedural matters.
- Familiarity with local authority governance requirements and regulations.
