We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide support to children with complex learning needs, ensuring they receive the tailored assistance necessary to excel in their academic and personal development.

Role Overview

As a Learning Support Assistant for Complex Needs, you will work closely with students who require individualised support due to a variety of learning challenges, including but not limited to, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, physical disabilities, and other additional needs. Your primary responsibility will be to provide hands-on, personalised support to enable students to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

You will collaborate with teaching staff, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and other professionals to implement specific strategies designed to support students’ learning and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with complex needs in the classroom.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of personalized learning plans in collaboration with the teaching staff.
  • Use appropriate resources and techniques to support students in their learning, behaviour, and communication.
  • Monitor student progress and report on achievements, challenges, and areas of development.
  • Help students with tasks such as personal care, mobility, and social interactions, where needed.
  • Promote an inclusive and positive learning environment, encouraging student participation and engagement.
  • Work closely with parents, carers, and other professionals to support the holistic development of students.
  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Always ensure the safeguarding and well-being of all students.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working with children or adults with complex needs (preferably within an educational setting).
  • Understanding of various complex needs, including ASD, ADHD, physical disabilities, and sensory impairments.
  • Ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of individual students.
  • Patience, empathy, and a strong desire to support and empower students.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with both teaching staff and external professionals.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A commitment to the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
