Learning Support Assistants are a vital resource within schools, supporting individual students as well as small groups and teachers. Within this position, 2 days are never the same and you will be working toward making a young persons life better.

We are working with a leading Worthing School with a good Ofsted rating that are working towards Outstanding. With pupil success as a focus this school is striving to set their pupils up for a successful life by providing them with the building blocks to continue to grow.

This role will entail:

  1. Morning Briefing and Planning: Start the day by attending a morning briefing with the teaching staff to discuss the day’s schedule, any specific needs or concerns for individual students, and to plan your support activities accordingly.
  2. Individual Support Sessions: Work with students one-on-one or in small groups to provide tailored support in areas such as reading, writing, staying focused on tasks, or understanding coursework requirements. Adapt your approach to meet each student’s unique needs and learning style.
  3. Assisting with Coursework: Assist students with their coursework, providing guidance, feedback, and encouragement as they work towards achieving their academic goals. This may involve helping them organize their work, brainstorm ideas, or develop effective study strategies.
  4. Collaboration with Teachers: Collaborate with teachers to integrate your support into the overall teaching and learning process. Provide insights and suggestions for adapting teaching methods or materials to better meet the needs of individual students.
  5. Monitoring Progress and Providing Feedback: Keep track of students’ progress and provide regular feedback on their work and behavior. Celebrate their achievements and offer constructive criticism to help them improve and grow academically and personally.
  6. Facilitating Extra-Curricular Activities: Get involved in organizing and facilitating extra-curricular activities that align with your own interests and passions, as well as those of the students. This could include sports, arts and crafts, STEM projects, or community service initiatives.
  7. Advocating for Students: Advocate for the needs of individual students within the school community, ensuring that they receive the support and resources they require to succeed academically and thrive socially and emotionally.
  8. Professional Development and Reflection: Take time for professional development and reflection, whether it’s attending training sessions, networking with other learning mentors, or reflecting on your own practice to continuously improve and grow in your role.
