We are seeking an experienced and proactive Business Manager to join their leadership team and contribute to the strategic management and operational success of our school.

Job Description:

As the Business Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the financial, administrative, and operational functions of the school. Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, you will ensure the effective management of resources, facilities, and support services to support the school’s mission and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the school’s administrative and support functions, including finance, human resources, facilities management, health and safety, and administrative systems.
  • Develop and implement financial management strategies, budgets, and forecasts to ensure the school’s financial sustainability and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial reports, statements, and returns, providing analysis and advice to senior leadership on budgetary matters and resource allocation.
  • Lead on procurement processes, contract negotiations, and supplier management, ensuring value for money and adherence to procurement policies and procedures.
  • Manage the recruitment, induction, and performance management of support staff, providing guidance and support to line managers and promoting a positive working culture.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including financial regulations, employment law, health and safety legislation, and data protection regulations.
  • Develop and maintain effective systems and procedures for the management of school facilities, premises, and resources, including maintenance, security, and ICT infrastructure.
  • Provide strategic leadership and guidance on school development projects and initiatives, contributing to the continuous improvement of services and facilities.
  • Act as the school’s designated safeguarding lead, ensuring the implementation of safeguarding policies, procedures, and training for staff.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a similar leadership role within the education sector, preferably in a school or academy setting.
  • Strong financial management skills, with experience in budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire staff, build effective teams, and drive performance improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in finance, human resources, facilities management, and health and safety.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including staff, governors, parents, and external agencies.
  • High level of IT proficiency, with experience in using finance and administrative systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other relevant software.
  • A relevant professional qualification in business management, finance, or a related field is desirable but not essential.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, with an understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures.
