SEN Classroom assistant – Gatwick.

Job Description

Location: Gatwick

Salary: From £18,500 (Full time position)

Full time/Part time

Are you a positive engaging person that is looking for an opportunity to make a difference?

Do you have the resilience and patients to manage challenging behaviour?

Would you like to work for a school that is willing to invest in you?

We are currently recruiting for a classroom assistant to join a small, independent school in Gatwick area, designed specifically for children with communication difficulties typically associated with Autism spectrum conditions. The pupils, aged between 6-16, have experienced challenges in mainstream environments, often taking extended periods out of previous schools and falling behind their peers. The school looks to support each child to overcome their barriers to learning and social development, so they can fully re-engage with education and enjoy everything that school life has to offer. Due to the individual needs and communication difficulties for most of the pupils, it is likely they will display challenging behaviour at times.

The ideal candidate needs to have a positive approach to each pupil and can build meaningful relationships with both staff and children so the best outcome for the pupils is possible. You will need to be willing and open to support across the school. Due to the area of the school, you will need to be able to drive or have a reliable mode of transport as public transport is very limited.

You will be joining a supportive and experienced staff team that not only believes in pupil progress but they also want to invest in their staff and like to offer opportunities for career progression. Each staff is expected to attend whole school professional sessions at least once a week.

Your roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting pupils achieve learning outcomes in lessons across all areas of the curriculum.
  • Having resilience and patience with working with students who exhibit challenging behaviour and be willing to be involved with any physical intervention; full training on this will be provided and you will be supported by experienced staff before this.
  • Commitment to ongoing personal development.
  • Support the class team in all areas of day-to-day life in the running of the classroom.

Benefits of working with Masterclass:

  • A dedicated and experienced consultant that specialises in SEN, that will tailor the service to your needs in order to secure your dream role.
  • Continuous support throughout your career journey with FREE CPD.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Focus on your health and well-being as a priority.

If this sounds like the opportunity for you, please apply today.

Please be aware that a DBS check will be required as part of the recruitment process.
