We are currently recruiting for a Class Teacher to join a small Special Needs Primary school in the Horley area. This school caters for children aged 6 to 11 years old, all of whom have an Educational Health Care Plan, most of the pupils will have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder and related communication and behaviour difficulties. You will be the class teacher of a class with 6-8 pupils with a 1:2 ratio of adults. You will be joining a school that is passionate about developing each pupil holistically with a human first, educators second approach. You will be provided with consistent training opportunities, such as professional development sessions once per week.
Is likely that pupils will display challenging behaviour due to the individual needs and communication difficulties for most of the pupils, it and you will be expected to have a positive approach to this behaviour. The ideal candidate needs to be patient and resilient when faced with these challenging situations as well as being able to keep firm boundaries if the need of de-escalation arises.
Due to the area of the school, you will need to be able to drive or have a reliable mode of transport as public transport is very limited.

Your roles and responsibilities will include:
- To establish strong and trusted relationships with all pupils in your class so they feel safe and want to come to school everyday.
- Responsibility for the pupils learning progress across all areas of the curriculum.
- Being responsible for you class team in completing everyday school tasks to keep the smooth running of the school.
- Having a positive approach to support behaviour and be willing to be involved with any physical intervention; full training on this will be provided and you will be supported by experienced staff before this.
