Job Description

Learning Support Assistant – Primary

Portsmouth

Monday – Friday | 08:30 – 15:30 | Term Time Only

£96– £105 per day

Are you someone who loves helping children grow in confidence and seeing those little moments when something finally clicks?

Masterclass Education is working with a welcoming primary school in Portsmouth that is looking for a caring and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join their team.

This is a lovely opportunity for someone who wants to make a genuine difference to children’s lives. You’ll be joining a supportive school where staff work closely together and where every child is encouraged to feel happy, confident and able to achieve.

The role will involve supporting pupils in the classroom, working alongside the class teacher and providing additional support to children who may need a little extra help with their learning, communication or social and emotional development.

You don’t need to have all the answers. What matters most is that you are patient, caring, reliable and genuinely passionate about helping children.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play an important part in helping pupils get the most out of their school day.

You could be supporting a child one-to-one, working with a small group or helping pupils take part in classroom activities. You’ll build positive relationships with the children you work with and help them develop their confidence, independence and love of learning.

You’ll also work closely with teachers and other members of the school team, sharing information and making sure pupils receive the right support.

Every day will be a little different, but the most rewarding part of the role is knowing that your support can make a real difference to a child’s day and their wider development.

What we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you are:

  • Caring, patient and approachable
  • Enthusiastic about working with children
  • Confident building positive relationships with pupils
  • A good communicator and team player
  • Calm, flexible and able to adapt to different situations
  • Passionate about helping children become more confident and independent
  • Committed to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing
  • Experienced in supporting children with SEND would be beneficial, but it isn’t essential

Perhaps you already work in education, have experience supporting children or young people, or have transferable experience from another role. If you have the right attitude and a genuine desire to help children, we’d love to hear from you.

Why Portsmouth?

The school is based in Portsmouth, a vibrant coastal city with a fantastic community feel. With the seafront, beaches, parks and plenty of shops, cafés and restaurants nearby, it’s a great place to work and live.

You’ll be joining a local school where you can become part of the wider community and build strong relationships with both pupils and staff.

What you can expect

  • A friendly and welcoming school environment
  • A supportive team around you
  • The opportunity to build valuable experience within primary education
  • The chance to work closely with experienced teachers and support staff
  • A rewarding role where no two days are quite the same
  • The opportunity to make a genuine difference to children’s lives
  • Term-time working, Monday to Friday
  • Competitive daily pay of £81.75 – £92.63
