SEMH Teacher – Portsmouth | September Start
Full-Time | September Start | Strong Potential to Extend or Become Permanent
Rate – £135 – £145 per day
Masterclass Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist school in Portsmouth for a full-time SEMH Teacher to join the team this September.
The role is initially until December, but there is every chance it could be extended or even become a permanent position for the right person. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a school that genuinely puts its pupils first. Based close to Portsmouth’s beautiful coastline, the school provides a nurturing environment for children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them build confidence, develop positive relationships, and enjoy learning again.
About the Role
No two days are the same in this role. You’ll be teaching small classes, adapting lessons to suit individual needs, and creating a classroom where pupils feel safe, understood, and motivated to succeed.
This is a varied position where you’ll be working with pupils across a range of year groups, so you’ll need to be confident adapting your teaching style to suit different ages and abilities. You’ll also be expected to teach a variety of subjects, so being flexible, creative, and comfortable delivering lessons across the curriculum is essential.
You’ll be supported by experienced teaching assistants and a wider multidisciplinary team, giving you the time and support needed to focus on what matters most, building relationships and helping pupils make progress, both academically and personally.
Whether you’re already working in specialist education or have experience in mainstream and are looking for a new challenge, this could be an incredibly rewarding next step.
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
- Is confident teaching across multiple year groups and is comfortable delivering a range of curriculum subjects.
- Has experience working with SEMH, SEND, or pupils with additional behavioural needs, or is keen to move into this area.
- Is patient, resilient, and able to build trust with young people.
- Can create engaging, differentiated lessons that meet a range of learning needs.
- Believes every child deserves the opportunity to succeed, regardless of the challenges they face.
What You Can Expect
- A welcoming and supportive leadership team.
- Small class sizes, allowing you to make a real impact.
- Excellent support from experienced teaching assistants and specialist staff.
- Ongoing opportunities for training and professional development.
- A school that values its staff and encourages career progression.
- A role that has genuine potential to continue beyond December or become permanent.
