About the School
Masterclass are supporting an inclusive junior/secondary school specialising in meeting the needs of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. They are committed to providing a nurturing, structured environment where young people feel safe, valued, and able to succeed both academically and personally.
The Role
We are seeking a resilient and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils across KS2, KS3 and KS4. You will work closely with teachers and the pastoral team to support learning, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing, helping pupils overcome barriers and re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide in-class and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Support pupils to regulate emotions and manage behaviour using agreed strategies.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
- Assist with the delivery of tailored learning activities and interventions.
- Support pupils during transitions and unstructured times of the day.
- Follow behaviour support plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding procedures.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN team, and external professionals.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to pupil reviews where required.
The Ideal Candidate
You will:
- Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs (school or alternative provision experience desirable).
- Be calm, patient, resilient, and able to remain consistent under pressure.
- Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Have a positive, proactive approach to behaviour support.
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing.
