Job Description:
As a 1:1 SEN (Special Educational Needs) Teaching Assistant, you will be responsible for providing support to a student with special educational needs. Your role will involve working closely with the classroom teacher to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ensure that the student receives the necessary support to reach their full potential. You will assist with academic tasks, help with social and emotional development, and facilitate the student’s integration into classroom activities.
Your day will be spent in hour blocks on a timetable working 1:1 with each student. There is a release time to be able to complete observations etc each day.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to understand the specific needs of the student.
- Provide one-on-one support to the student with academic tasks
- Assist the student with social integration and encourage positive peer interactions.
- Implement strategies outlined in the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) to support their learning and development.
- Monitor the student’s progress
- Adapt teaching methods and materials to suit the individual learning style of the student.
- Provide emotional support and encouragement to help the student overcome challenges and build confidence.
- Maintain accurate records of the student’s progress and achievements.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs is highly desirable.
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special needs support are preferred but not essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and development of children with special educational needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the student.
