Teaching Assistant – Learning Difficulties & Autism (Secondary School)

The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting students with learning difficulties and autism across a variety of subjects and year groups (Years 7–11)
- Assisting the class teacher in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs
- Providing one-to-one or small group support to help pupils develop communication, social, and learning skills
- Implementing strategies to support students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), including the use of visual aids, structured routines, and positive behaviour approaches
- Helping pupils manage transitions and regulate emotions throughout the school day
- Encouraging independence, resilience, and confidence in all aspects of learning and personal development
- Supporting teachers in maintaining a positive and inclusive classroom environment
What We’re Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people with additional or special educational needs (school or care settings welcome)
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting learners with diverse needs
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive attitude with a genuine passion for helping young people succeed
Essential Requirements
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external professionals
- A DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
- A positive, resilient, and caring attitude towards supporting pupils with additional needs
