Masterclass Education is currently recruiting for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and welcoming SEN school in Portsmouth. The school is known for its nurturing approach, inclusive values, and commitment to helping every pupil achieve both academically and personally. Staff work closely together to create a safe, structured, and positive learning environment where pupils feel supported, valued, and encouraged to succeed.
The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils throughout their school day. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide tailored support to students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop important social and emotional skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with their learning, emotional wellbeing, and personal development
- Provide one-to-one and small group support tailored to individual needs
- Encourage positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional regulation
- Assist teachers in delivering lessons and adapting activities where required
- Help create a calm, safe, and inclusive learning environment
- Build positive and supportive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
- Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem in pupils
- Provide personal care where required, ensuring dignity and respect at all times
What We’re Looking For
- A compassionate, patient, and proactive approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential
- An understanding of SEN such as Autism, ADHD, and social/emotional needs is beneficial
- A willingness to learn, adapt, and develop professionally
